Las Vegas could not exist without water. Water was pumped into Las vegas from the Las Vegas

Valley area.

Moved to Las Vegas-stayed at the Desert Inn- Later bought the Desert Inn and other hotels in
Las Vegas, including hotels owed by organized crime families. Howard Hughes helped changed
the image of Vegas from seedy underworld to a more respectable image.

NOTE OF INTEREST: The Last Vegas strip does not resided in the Las Vegas proper- The Las Vegas Strip properties is an unincorporated township called Paradise- Nevada law- cannot annex a unincorporated township- Today- the Las Vegas Strip is not part of Las Vegas.
1970- Population Growth- Double growth in every decade -Rapid growth produced increase in commercial and residential areas

1980- Larger and bigger Hotels-- Steve Wynn Mirage- Start of super hotels

2001- Financial Crisis-Due to rapid growth and expansion, Las Vegas was one of the hardest hit by the mortgage crises, over valued property- people were over extended- Residential and commercial property was over valued and foreclosures took a big hit in Las Vegas-According to some financial reports- Las Vegas was one of the worst places to get a job.

In summary: Las Vegas - will overcome the financial crisis- it may take time - it's Vegas- the entertainment capitol of the world
